Learning Lao Language

We believe that the language and culture learning process is like a journey - it's better to start off with friends. We here at The Journey come alongside you in your own journey of learning the local languages and cultures and provide you with some helpful tips and tricks from people who have traveled this way before. Perhaps you stick with us for the long term or stay for a bit before you branch out on your own. However you chose to travel, we want to wish you well on your journey.

01

Survival Lao:
Your Bridge to New Adventures

The purpose of this manual is to provide a quick inroad for newcomers and visitors to gather a basic, but meaningful vocabulary in Lao.

02

Medical Survival Lao

This text was compiled with medical professionals in mine - those desiring to work both short-term and long-term in Laos. This curriculum assumes that you already posses some basic knowledge of the Lao language - that you have already mastered Survival lao and know how to greet and interact with your patients, even if it is done on a simple level.

Buddhist Survival Lao

This book is designed for those who have a solid foundation in Lao and are looking for ways to dive deeper into the some of the cultural and religious aspects of Lao language learning. The text includes discussions of Buddhism and animism and specialty vocabulary related to these worlds.

Hands on Language:

The Journey Center exists to provide opportunities for deep linguistic and cultural exchanges that enrich all those involved through small-sized language classes that focus on hands-on interaction with words and phrases, story building, and going deep into culture. We use real-life objects, toys, picture books, traditional stories, and other Lao texts to create the lessons based on the student’s personal interest, job, and preferences.
